The Swedish Language
The Academy’s main objective is to work for the ’purity, vigour and majesty’ of the Swedish language, i.e. its clarity, expressiveness and prestige.
To attain this object the Academy is engaged in a number of projects, some of them permanent, some of a more temporary nature. Among the former is The Swedish Academy Dictionary, a comprehensive historical dictionary edited in Lund by a staff of about 20. A special scholarly council with representatives from the Academy and the editorial staff are superintending the work.
Situated in Gothenburg are the editorial staffs of The Swedish Academy Glossary, the (unofficial) norm for the spelling and inflexion of Swedish words, and of The Contemporary Dictionary of the Swedish Academy.
